National HEP/CAMP Association Internship Program Application

Two current CAMP students will be selected to participate in the National HEP/CAMP Association Internship Program. The participants will travel to Washington, D.C. to take part in an eight-week internship program. Each intern will spend four weeks in Congressman Ruben Hinojosa’s office and four weeks in the Office of Migrant Education. In Congressman Hinojosa’s office the intern greets visitors, answers the telephone and constituent requests for general information, tours and other inquiries. This position monitors delivery and pickup of materials, maintains the front office, and assists with various administrative legislative duties. The intern assists in providing research for and responds to letters from constituents and other interested parties. The intern interacts with political and community leaders, learning about the federal system of government, policy development and implementation, and grassroots advocacy efforts. In the Office of Migrant Education, the intern works with the HEP & CAMP team in a variety of tasks including policy discussions, preparing for the HEP & CAMP Annual Directors’ Meeting, working with project files and a limited amount of data management. The intern also assists the MEP staff with monitoring reports, guidance documents, preparing for the OME Conference and working with state files. The intern also attends policy briefings and other pertinent meetings that are attended by the OME leadership and/or staff. Both interns will have a number of opportunities to participate in various seminars and leadership activities in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Internship Program.
Only one application per program will be considered
To apply, applicant must:
- Be a current CAMP participant.
- Submit a completed application form, personal statement, resume, two letters of recommendation, CAMP qualifying document (COE, WIA or Employment Verification)
and official GPA and credit documentation.
Program Dates (if both interns selected are from schools on the semester system):
- DC Arrival: May 31, 2010
- Internship orientation and exploration of DC: May 31- June 6,2010
- Internship Start Date: June 7, 2010
- Internship End Date: July 30,2010
- Return Home: July 31, 2010
Program Dates (if one or both interns are from schools on the quarter system):
- DC Arrival: June 14, 2010
- Internship orientation and exploration of DC: June 14-June 18,2010
- Internship Start Date: June 21, 2010
- Internship End Date: August 13, 2010
- Return Home: August 14, 2010
Compensation:
- Air fare and housing accommodations during Washington, D.C. stay
- $3,000 stipend
- Clothing allowance
